Wireless Access Point

If you have areas in the house where the WiFi signal is weak you may benefit by installing a wireless access point. The basically takes a feed from your main router via a LAN cable and provides an internet connection to a Wireless Access Centre. You can then create additional WiFi zones with a strong signal in those areas which had a weak signal. This is what I have done using a Netgear WAC124 (AC2000).

The Netgear WAC124 (AC2000) is quite a powerful device. It can be setup as a standalone router or a Wireless access point. With 3 WiFi SSID it can provide the extra coverage you may need.

For the UK you get a 12 Volt power supply , LAN cable and the WAC124 device, all nicely packed so it can withstand most delivery companies.

My WAC124 came preloaded with firmware 1.0.4.4

This means that this device is set up as a router by default. So any firmware after 1.0.4.2 means your device is a router and needs changing to Wireless Access Point if that is what it was bought for. This can be reversed whenever you require it to be a router, easily done.

Don't forget:

Default settings for logging in to WAC124
